Holding Onto Sobriety with the Serenity Prayer

If you have been to NA meetings, have read NA literature, and are well versed in the circles of recovery, then you already know the serenity prayer. But do you take it to heart?

Once you start living a clean and sober life, things can become so “normal” that you no longer realize how wonderful they are! Life is not easy. But it can be exciting and fulfilling if you let it. This is why gratitude is vital to recovery – a topic for another blog.

Holding onto sobriety with the serenity prayer is possible if you go through the prayer slowly and fervently. Let’s take a look at the serenity prayer before we dive into a simple explanation of how you can put it into action. 

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Reinhold Neibuhr

What’s the very first word that jumps out at you? Serenity maybe? Yes, but how do we get there? Where is it found?
