Feeling judged by the people around you can make you feel small. Humility is a great virtue, but many people mistake low self-esteem for humility. Humility is thinking about yourself less, while low self-esteem is thinking less about yourself. Freedom in recovery from addiction is obtained through deep self-acceptance.

Everyone wants to hurry and get well. We’ve been sick for so long, so why not, right? We know it takes hard work and determination. Serenity Prayer Lessons You Can Apply at Sees-the-Day Recovery House

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.” (Reinhold Niebuhr)

It’s easy to pray the serenity prayer, and even easier to focus on the simple parts and avoid the TRUTH. You may tell yourself that you can easily make changes when you really cannot. Or, you might try to force something that is not the will of your higher power. If you are truly working the 12 steps, they go hand in glove with the serenity prayer.

You can apply these serenity prayer lessons at sees-the-day PA recovery house and they will help you move forward in completing the 12 steps. You will also experience abundant spiritual growth if you decide to stick with the entire program – both at NA and/or Celebrate Recovery and Sees-the-Day recovery house!

2 Weeks ago, we talked about holding onto sobriety with the serenity prayer. Now we are going to explain how these 4 powerful reasons to embrace the serenity prayer will bring an abundance of blessings into your life and give you the power to overcome addiction in every form.

The Serenity Prayer is not just used at the beginning and end of each NA/AA meeting. Each NA/AA 12 step meeting contains elements of the serenity prayer in one way or another.

Whether it’s a step meeting, a reading from an NA book called Living Clean, a speaker meeting, or a reading from an NA book How it Works – we can easily glean at least one principle from the serenity prayer in each meeting we attend.

Why not make the very most of your 12 step meetings and NA Book(s) by fully embracing the serenity prayer and practicing what you learn to overcome your addiction?

If you have been to NA meetings, have read NA literature, and are well versed in the circles of recovery, then you already know the serenity prayer. But do you take it to heart?

Once you start living a clean and sober life, things can become so “normal” that you no longer realize how wonderful they are! Life is not easy. But it can be exciting and fulfilling if you let it. This is why gratitude is vital to recovery – a topic for another blog.

Holding onto sobriety with the serenity prayer is possible if you go through the prayer slowly and fervently. Let’s take a look at the serenity prayer before we dive into a simple explanation of how you can put it into action.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Reinhold Neibuhr

What’s the very first word that jumps out at you? Serenity maybe? Yes, but how do we get there? Where is it found?
